Keep Slipping Away

A brief update to share a few new things I've got going on. First, I've started a new public Twitter page where I'm posting Twit-size music review of my LPs. I recently got a new (better) stereo setup and (bigger) record shelving unit, so I've decided to go through my collection one by one and review each LP I've got. It's a fun way at rediscovering some dust covered classics, as well as help decipher which to rid myself of in order to par down my collection. It's ordered alphabetically, and I'm still just on the A's. If you're into music reviews and that sort of thing, you're welcome read it or follow me here - Dust and Static.

At the end of this month I'm going to be part of a group art show put together by my friend Jaymie, over at We Are Industry. Some other great artists are involved too! So, if you're interested in heading out to the Monrovia area, it's February 26th at 7PM and should be good fun. Below is the flyer Jaymie has put together with all the info:

I'll try and take some good pics from the evening and post them afterwards.

I've also started recording some music under a new moniker, Black Prisms. It's nothing to write home about yet, just more experiments in some audio-recording programs I'm still trying to learn. I do this all on my own, at home, when I find the time between all the other things going on in my life. I covered Bob Dylan's “It's All Over Now Baby Blue” but coated it with a thick layer of haze. 2010 has been a little slow to start in terms of music releases. I'm really liking the new Shout Out Louds record, Work. It's not out yet officially, but you know the drill. While it's not quite as memorable as Our Ill Wills, it's still got some great tracks on it. I especially like the subtly of “Play The Game”, and more of The Cure-channeling in “Show Me Something New.”

Also, despite being a late-2009 release technically, the Grouper/Roy Montgomery split is amazing. To be honest, I haven't even given the Roy Montgomery side a second listen, but that's to be expected. Liz Harris/Grouper is my absolute favorite musician around these days, and very possibly of all time. I can't write enough about how affecting her music is.

Lastly, the new A Place To Bury Strangers single, “Keep Slipping Away” off the stellar and highly recommended Exploding Head LP that came out last year is on a steady repeat as well. The video is terrific and fits the band and song perfectly. Check it out if you haven't already!

I can psyche myself out with the 'what if!' quite a lot. But over the past year I've been lightening up, bit by bit, and, well, relaxing more often then usual. I've also, admittedly, had trouble with opening up to people, even if I've known them for years. Taking each days as it comes can be quite difficult but I've slowly been able to sink into the routine with just occasional bumps in the road. Also, I'm learning to be a bit more social, though I'm no tell-all book.

Keep looking up!
